My parents have experienced three levels of care at the Highlands. They went from independent living in a lovely home, to an apartment in the Maine Lodge to assisted living in Cadigan Lodge. The respectful, caring support in making each transition was incredible. My mother's decline into the need for Hospice support was supported in the same way; with respect, skill and genuine compassion. Our whole family was supported during this difficult transition up until and beyond the moment she left us. I truly felt that the Highlands staff were our extended family, offering open ears, arms and doors, and accepting our grief as they also provided gentle, attentive care to my mother. She truly died the most peaceful death one could imagine. I cannot say enough about The Highlands!!!

The Highlands is a beautiful facility and we were very impressed with it. The staff was so attentive and informative. They offer so many activities for the people who live there in the memory care area, and the rooms were beautiful. It really felt like a home for the residents.

General speaking, the overall experience has been very good. There are many activities to choose from, and my wife and I have been trying Some, partly because we both are very active, but also to meet and get to know more of the residents. The people we have gotten to know are very nice, and come from varied backgrounds and interests. Some of the communications with staff have been slow to get resolved, but that is getting better, as we've never lived in a cooperative community. We have a lovely home, and our son is living with us, as he has some special needs. When we hit the great beyond he will have priority to move into an apartment with meals and housekeeping, so this was a great relief for us. We mostly make our own meals, ut have had several excellent dinners here, and others have said the phone is above average. The maintenance crew and others have said staff are really helpful. All in all, above what we expected.

Basically 5s across them all. After 2 no injury falls, a 3 plus day stay in hospital, dad went back to his apt w/ hospice care. The staff at Highlands went above & beyond to care for him in his final days. They were gentle, took time to explain to him what they were doing, all this while he was "sleeping". They even were caring to us, his family, providing for our needs! From admin to maintenence, nurses to caregivers they all looked in on dad, & us. They were truly blessings from God, each in their own unique & special way. I thank God every day for them.

As we plan for future Senior Living, the tour of The Highlands was very pleasant and informative. [name removed] shared extensive information and answered all of our questions. The facilities are attractive and inviting both inside and out. In addition to the apartments, the facilities offered comfortable areas for numerous activities - open and extensive library, piano for residents’ use, plus a variety of programs and committees. Pool and fitness center and salon are on site. We enjoyed a tasty lunch from a varied menu in a cheerful dining room. A variety of programs and committees are available if a resident is interested. Both shared areas and private apartments are spacious, nicely decorated and inviting. The staff and residents we met were very friendly.

A majority of the staff are friendly, helpful, ready to help dad. Polite, patient, even when he is not. The apt is a good size, & there are other spaces if one needs company: a community room, library, gym, pool, etc. The residents have many of activities to join, on sight & off sight, tours to towns in the area; out to eating establishments. And having eaten at the dining room a few times, I can attest to how delicious the meals are, & there is more than enough! The cleaning staff keeps dad's apt neat & clean; daily remove the trash; & laundry is once a week, but if needed more they will do so. They also make sure he gets his meds daily.

Highlands has so many activities to keep residents busy and adequate staff to coordinate and transport residents to events. The facility itself is well maintained and has those extra touches that make the difference ie the exercise center, library, multiple dining areas and especially the lanyard system that provides emergency response. It's very comforting to know emergency response is only a few minutes away when needed.

My brother and sister recently toured the Highlands so I am reporting on what they told me. They were welcomed and were struck by how friendly the staff and residents are. They found the facilities attractive.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident I've been to The Highlands in Topsham, and I like the people there. I went with a friend who was visiting her mother at their independent living community, and I enjoyed that very much. I liked that the rooms that I looked at had a screened-in porch. I thought that was great, because I have a screen porch that I love too. I love having those places that are accessible to the outdoors. I found the rooms were kind of small, and I wasn't thrilled about that. I had lunch there and that was very good. Another thing I don't like is that it's not walkable to anything else, although it is walkable to a school. I'm a retired teacher and do volunteer work here, so that would be a good possibility for me living there. There wasn't really anything that stood out that I didn't like, except that the rooms were small. I spoke to several of the people who live there, I went to the library for a while to look around, and I got into a conversation with someone in the library, and they were very positive.

I visited this facility We toured The Highlands. They were very professional, friendly, and informative. They took us into the memory care unit, where we interacted with residents and got their own impressions of how things were, and they were very accommodating and inviting. So, it's a premier facility. They're all individual private rooms, and they're comparable in size to the other facilities we toured. The dining area is the size of a restaurant. It was enough for 30 or more people, and the wait staff and the menu were great. The food was good. It was restaurant quality. We had lunch, so it was lighter than the dinner menu.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t say enough wonderful things about The Highlands in Topsham, Maine. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I was struck by its beauty—immaculate grounds, peaceful walking paths, and charming architecture that truly feels like home. What impressed me most, though, was the exceptional level of care my loved one is receiving. Every member of the staff is warm, professional, and incredibly attentive. They treat residents with compassion, respect, and genuine kindness. It gives me tremendous peace of mind knowing he’s in such good hands. The facilities are spotless, thoughtfully designed, and filled with natural light. Every detail—from the cozy common areas to the organized activities—reflects how much this community values quality of life. The Highlands has exceeded every expectation. Highly, highly recommend!

Very pleased with the facility. Met all the criteria we were looking for to find a good home for my mother. Rebecca was absolutely wonderful to work with as was Adam!
