Celebrating National Assisted Living Week: Generations of Grace

September 11, 2024

National Assisted Living Week (NALW) is a time to honor the residents, staff, and families that make our communities vibrant and meaningful places to live and work. This year, from September 8th to 13th, we celebrate under the theme Generations of Grace, reflecting on how the wisdom and experiences of our residents have inspired generations and continue to do so.

A Week to Reflect and Celebrate

Grace Management, Inc. is embracing this theme wholeheartedly across all its communities. This week provides an opportunity not only to celebrate our residents but also to delve into the rich history and life experiences they bring with them. Each day of the week is dedicated to a different decade, from the 1950s to the 1980s, allowing us to explore and commemorate the personal and historical milestones that have shaped our residents’ lives.

Sunday, September 8th: Grandparents Day

We kick off NALW with Grandparents Day, a perfect time to connect generations. Residents are encouraged to invite their grandchildren to share in activities like family picnics, ice cream socials, and crafts. This day is all about celebrating the intergenerational bonds that make our communities unique.

Monday, September 9th: 1950s

The nostalgia of the 1950s takes center stage with events like a Sock Hop, Soda Fountain experiences, and a classic movie night. Residents will relive the era of pink Cadillacs, diners, and the Golden Age of Television, creating an atmosphere filled with the spirit of the past.

Tuesday, September 10th: 1960s

The Swinging Sixties brought social change and a vibrant counterculture. Our communities will host events like a “learn to Twist” party, Motown-themed Bingo, and a Moon Landing celebration, highlighting the decade’s historical and cultural significance.

Wednesday, September 11th: 1970s

Disco fever and the rebellious spirit of the 1970s will be celebrated with tie-dye crafts, silent discos, and trivia games. This day is about embracing the groovy style of the era while reflecting on the significant historical events that shaped it.

Thursday, September 12th: 1980s

The 1980s was a time of big hair, bright colors, and technological advancements. As we celebrate 40 years of Grace Management, Inc., this day will include 80s-themed workout classes, life-size Pong games, and music that defined the decade.

Friday, September 13th: Grace Spirit Day

The week culminates with Grace Spirit Day, where residents and staff alike will don purple to show their pride in being part of the Grace family. This day is dedicated to celebrating the positive impact Grace Management has had over the decades, with activities like scavenger hunts, community Olympics, and appreciation meals.

Inspiring Generations with Wisdom

Throughout the week, our communities will also focus on capturing and sharing the wisdom of our residents. From childhood stories of the 1950s to retirement advice in the 1980s, we will create a “Wall of Wisdom” to showcase these invaluable life lessons. This initiative not only honors our residents but also inspires staff and family members by connecting them to the past.
